Eileen Carey is quickly gaining worldwide recognition for her music, thanks to her acclaimed self-penned single That Town. Shes on the verge of releasing a new album and Estella caught up with her to talk about the new project.
CIO (Estella): You started performing at the age of 13. Did you know then that you wanted to pursue a career as a recording artist?
Eileen: At that age, I just loved singing.
CIO (Estella): Youre originally from Ohio. What brought you over to Los Angeles?
Eileen: What brought me to L.A. was my husband. And also there were more opportunities. A few years ago, I got into acting and that was in L.A.
CIO (Estella): You mention acting. What made you decide to pursue a full-time music career?
Eileen: I was studying to be a film director. I decided to go into acting to learn about what actors go through, so I would know how to relate to them and to become a better director. During the time, I was going to school and acting; I was also taking vocal lessons and acting in musical theater. And thats when I decided that I really love and wanted to get more involved in [music]. Its been a long journey to the music business But its been FUN!!!
CIO (Estella): When did you write your first song? Do you remember what it was about?
Eileen: The first song I wrote was That Town. Its about striking out on your own. And that song is doing great on the radio right now. I have been only writing for about 6 years.
CIO (Estella): Who are some of the artists who have influenced your songwriting?
Eileen: When I was younger, Carole King, Chrissie Hynde, The Beatles, and I love Motown music!!! [These days], Sheryl Crow and Keith Urban. I listen to all kinds of music pop, rock, country, hip hop, R&B, and jazz. Thats how I get some of my ideas.
CIO (Estella): Youre currently working on a new album. Will you have some of your own songs on it?
Eileen: Yes, I will have some of my songs on the CD as well as some from other writers.
CIO (Estella): Do you have a release date on the new album yet?
Eileen: September or October of 2004.
CIO (Estella): Can you tell us what the FemMuse Network is and how you became affiliated with the organization?
Eileen: FemMuse is a female musicians organization group. Its a great support group. We put on shows, etc. I met Ryanta who is the founder of the
group about three years ago; we talked and I loved what she had to say. Check out the website www.femmuse.com.
CIO (Estella): Do you have a website?
Eileen: Yes, its www.EileenCarey.com.
CIO (Estella): Being that your music has been played in countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, and Japan, do you have any plans to tour overseas?
Eileen: Yes, I will be touring overseas in 2005.
CIO (Estella): Besides being a recording artist, are there other occupations or dreams you wanted to pursue?
Eileen: Besides being an artist, I would love to be a film director. I studied film directing for about 2 years and also did some acting. That is still in the future directing films.
