Los Angeles, CA, September 1, 2001 Localsinger/songwriter Eileen Carey will perform songs from her new folk/rock CD, Possibilities, on Saturday, September 22, from 2-3 p.m. at Poo-Bah Record Shop, the independent record store in Pasadena. Founded in 1971 in Pasadenas Old Town, Poo-Bah has been at the corner of Wilson & Walnut since 1974. This record shops walls are covered with old record albums, the likes of original music from the Untouchables to Ike & Tina Turners Dynamite. Vinyl takes up more space than CDs, and all is overseen by owner Jay Green and his Poo-Bah mascot (a depiction of the mischievious Grand Poo-Bah jester from Gilbert & Sullivans Mikado). After college, a record store was a way for me to stay involved in my love for music, Green related. We carry many obscure selections of music that matches our diverse clientele. We also have a lot of imports and work with foreign distributors wholl search requests for us. In a world dominated by large chain music retailers, Poo-Bahs independent status serves a very specialized niche market. Their mainly word-of-mouth clientele has attracted a number of celebrities, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who had to duck his head while entering the doorway. His is one of the photos interspersed with album covers and rock & roll posters covering the record shop walls from floor to ceiling. We dont deal in collectibles, but we do buy and sell used products that we know will sell, Green continued. Also, we like to support local artists, offering them a way to sell their CDs on consignment. Careys new folk/rock CD ,Possibilities is co-written by herself and various collaborators, and shell perform songs from this CD at Poo-Bah, accompanied by guitarist Masa Kohama. (A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Possibilities is being donated to childrens charities.) Recently, Carey was named a finalist in the 7th Annual Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival (September 13-16) and will compete in the Best of Show competition before a select panel of judges and mainstream/independent film & music industry professionals.
